Arthrogen BV is a biopharmaceutical company focussing on the development of local gene therapy for rheumatic diseases using viral mediated gene transfer. The therapeutic vectors are derived from natural occurring adeno-associated viruses (AAV) that are not pathogenic in humans. The recombinant viruses are engineered to express therapeutic proteins or to express genes that can knock-down proteins that are involved in the pathogenesis of rheumatic diseases. Having access to a large, state-of-the art animal facility and a clinical unit dedicated to gene therapy in the AMC, Arthrogen is able to develop the viral gene therapy technology into the clinic in the coming years. Initiation of a phase I clinical trial will take place
in close cooperation with the Division of Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology at the AMC and Dubai Bone and joint center (DBAJ).
